The course covers: basic ceramic theory; ceramics OH & S and good studio practice; wedging; centring; the forming of vessels on the wheel; finishing techniques such as trimming and decorating and glazing.

The course will be limited to 6 participants, allowing for lots of individual tuition.

Aprons will be provided.  Please bring a towel and wear comfortable clothes that get dirty.

Pieces can be collected 3 -4 week after the course finishes.

No prior experience needed.  Perfect for beginners.

6 x 2.5 hour sessions

After completing the course, participants will have the option to continue making work in our self-guided open studio sessions and will have the option to get their work fired in our kilns.

Course tutors:

Course Beginning Monday 17th June

This course will be facilitated by Kib Denson.

Kib Denson has been practicing ceramics for the past 7 years, having transitioned from a traditional fine art practice, and now works full-time in the industry.

Kib teaches a range of ways to work with clay, from hand-building, wheel throwing to slip casting. In her personal work the focus is on minimal, wheel thrown functional forms and glaze experimentation. She is constantly working to expand her skills with experimentation in wood firing, sourcing and processing wild clays, and sculptural techniques.  For images click here

Wheelthrowing 101 was such a fantastic course! You were on the wheel from day 1. As someone who has never done wheel throwing or anything remotely artsy, I felt so supported and learnt so so much! Not to mention I created a dozen pieces im going to use! It was such a fantastic experience. Thank you so much to Libby, Emily and Angeliki!

If you're considering signing up, don't hesitate and hit that "book now" button before it's too late! If you do, ceramics with Emily will be the highlight of your week for 6 weeks just as it was for me. You'll come away will new skills, handy knowledge and a heightened appreciation (trust me, you won't look at hand made mugs the same way again). Highly recommend
